New Year’s Eve (Silvester) 2008/2009 course was marked by the opening of the culture-capital-year Linz09. Accordingly, in the center of Linz the arrival of the new year 2009 has been celebrated pompous and with many extra programs.
Despite the blocked “Urfahrmarktgelände” the parking chaos kept the in boundaries, probably numerous visitors took advantage of the extended operating hours of the Linz tram.
The outdoor stages on the main square and the old market made for a great mood and some opened punch stands helped to bear the minus degrees. Finally to midnight the happening shifted on to the Danube park, where at 00:10 the “Rocket Symphony” competed with the the many private fireworks. Yet no culture objects to look at could be found in the city, but that will hopefully change soon.
